Postal Rate Increase confirmed for Jan 2012

Just Announced: The Postal Service has made it known that the next price increase will be implemented on January 22, 2012. It will include both the competitive and market dominant price change together.

We do not know if this will eliminate the need for the May time frame that has been the traditional time for Market Dominate product price adjustments since the PAEA went into effect in 2007.

This increase / adjustment will be filed sometime in October 2011, and will most likely contain the CPI figure through September 2011. If the economy tanks, then there is a possibility that the USPS would file on Oct 14, to avoid the September figure and use the August 2011 figure.

Less than 12 months will have passed since the last price increase and there is a slight difference in the available price cap.

  8. I don't want to see the corner mailboxes taken away. I use them as much as possible! Although not the fastest, mail service is a basic necessity in society. Sometimes there needs to be a physical movement of items.
Keep USPS going! By the way, to send something anywhere in the country for 0.44 (or other rate) IS a bargain.

  9. I figure with gas prices the way they are I can't drive to CA or down the block for $.44.

  11. Just take a look at the USPS website, and you realize what a horribly inefficient service the USPS is. You would think you could check there and find out quickly what it costs to mail a letter, and what the next increase date is, but if you check rate increases for 1/22 they give you nothing but codes and incoherent columns of date. The USPS is probably one of the more efficient government areas, but it would never make it in the private world. Our government is seriously broke, unfortunately the people in power to fix it are the ones who benefit most from it's inefficiency (how many middle class or poor government officials do you know?)

  12. Yep, some folks grew up with 3 cent postage and two deliveries a day - and that was the GOVERNMENT supported Post Office Department not the U S Postal Service. USPS does not, and has not since 1972, received government funds yet are still governed by Congress ... go figure. If you can get the job done better and cheaper then go for it but the reality is that NOBODY provided service equal to, or better than, the Post Office. UPS & FedEX both use USPS for "final mile" delivery to areas that are not economically feasible for them to service so obviously these must be some need for what the post office does. Private industry doesn't want to take over mail delivery because they can't afford to provide the same level of service. So, if you don't like it use something else - there are plenty of other options available. And I never got a virus from a snail mail letter.

  13. What a grouchy old sour puss. Candy used to cost a penny, too. Clearly has listened to too much 'talk radio.' Such stereotype grumblings are a bore. Do you get up early each the morning to spread your venom on message boards?

  14. When postal rates go up, it causes more people to pay bills and do more on-line than go to the post office to mail letters. I live in Eastern NC and it usually takes 2 days for a letter to get to Charlotte, NC. Within the last month, I sent 2 letters to Charlotte, to 2 different places and it took more than a week for one letter and from Dec 27 to Jan 17 for the other letter. The second letter would have cost a convenience fee to pay online...however, it would have brought peace of mind. If there is less mail to handle, why does it take so long to get to where it's going?

  15. I'm not very pleased with USPS at the moment either. A document was mailed to me the morning of January 18th & here it is the 27th & I still don't have it. Oh, did I forget to mention the city it was mailed from is only 25 minutes away from me??? I thought maybe since W-2s & other tax forms are mailed out in January, that might be the reason for the delay. But now I'm wondering if I'll ever get it at all??? :( Surely the delay or possibly non-delivery doesn't have anything to do with this price change of stamps (which by the way, this is the FIRST time I've even heard anyone mention it!!!), anyway I wouldn't think it would have to do with that considering the date mailed was prior to the price change date.

  16. One preparation to find the best USPS Postage Rates that you can do is by knowing beforehand the usps postage rates that you need to pay the services. Usually, when you want to send your package in the post office, a long line is waiting for you. Prepare the exact amount of money will save more of your time after you reach the service table.
